Integrity Means Concentration
  • The IAQ Council is a certifying body – only.
  • We have no other goals, no other programs, no other interests.  The credibility and value of your certification is our only concern.
  • Since unification with IAQA and IESO in January 2006, the IAQ Council offers no memberships, develops no standards and publishes no magazines, journals or newspapers.
  • We have no special interest committees, training classes or annual conventions.
  • We administer certification programs – period.

Integrity Means Standards
  • The IAQ Council maintains rigorous standards for all candidates:
  • Eligibility requirements include documented, verifiable field experience.
  • Top-level certificants must have eight years experience.
  • All examinations are closed book.
  • All examinations are based on industry texts rather than prep course materials.

  • The IAQ Council develops its exams according to strict procedures:
  • Core skills and exam items are developed by industry experts.
  • Examinations are assembled and cut scores set by independent certification boards.
  • Exams and exam items undergo annual psychometric analysis and review.
  • Exams are continuously rated for validity and reliability.

  • IAQ Council certifications are granted by unanimous vote of an independent certification board:
  • Our certification boards are composed of certified industry experts.
  • All certification board members are independent volunteers.
  • Our certification boards review every application before granting certification.

  • There are no paper exams.
  • All exam items are electronically randomized.
  • Exams are proctored at secure sites throughout North America and overseas.
  • Exam proctors are independently trained and authorized.
  • Exam proctors are unaffiliated with course providers.

  • IAQ Council policies guarantee the confidentiality of candidate files:
  • Candidate information is not for sale, rent or trade.
  • Candidate files are released by subpoena only.
  • Candidate files are secure on a protected server.
  • Candidate files undergo identity theft protection procedures.
  • Candidate files are stored in a redundant system.

  • The IAQ Council operates its programs in compliance with the following nationally recognized standards:
  • ASTM certification standard E 1929
  • CESB certification program accreditation guidelines and requirements
  • APA, AERA and NCME standards for educational testing
  • ISO international certification standards 9000, 9001, 17000 and 17024

  • As an independent certifying body, the IAQ Council belongs to the following national organizations:
  • The Council for Engineering and Scientific Specialty Boards (CESB)
  • The National Organization for Competency Assurance (NOCA)

Credibility Means Accreditation
  • IAQ Council certifications are the only programs in the IAQ industry to achieve independent third-party accreditation by the Council for Engineering and Scientific Specialty Boards (CESB):
  • CIEC, CMC – accredited as engineering related certifications
  • CIE, CMI, CMRS, CMR, CRMI, CIAQM – accredited as engineering technician certifications

  • The IAQ Council offers no training or prep courses.
  • The IAQ Council allows no prep course providers to proctor its exams.
  • The IAQ Council allows no prep course providers to sit on its boards.
  • The IAQ Council has no revenue sharing agreements with course providers.
  • The IAQ Council has no contracts with course providers.

Conflicts of Interest
  • The IAQ Council offers no product endorsements.
  • The IAQ Council enforces strict recusal rules for board members who encounter conflicts of interest.
  • The IAQ Council allows no individual to sit on its boards who profits materially from the granting or revoking of certification.

Industry Organizations
  • The IAQ Council’s unification agreement with IAQA and IESO carefully preserves the independence of each organization.

  • There are no required courses for IAQ Council certifications.
