Exam FAQ

Am I qualified to take the exam? 

You must meet IAQ Council eligibility requirements specific to your certification program, including requirements for academic and field experience.

Field experience:

IAQ Council certifications require from two (2) to eight (8) years of field experience, depending on the program.

Field experience must be documented and verifiable.

Field experience must be appropriate to the certification being offered.

Academic experience:

15 college semester hours of science-related courses count for two (2) years of field experience.

30 college semester hours of science-related courses count for four (4) years of field experience.

Should I take a preparatory course?

It is not required but highly recommended.

How should I prepare for the exam?    

You should read all reference texts thoroughly, as all exam questions are based on those texts.  

When and where should I take an examination?    

At your convenience at an authorized testing center.  

How do I register for an examination?    

Simply call our office and ask to register (1-800-942-0832).  

Do I need to submit an application?    

Yes, applications are located here.

What is the examination fee? 

The fee is included in your application fee.  

If I fail the exam, what is the fee for retaking it?    

Re-examination fees are $100.  

What do I need to take to the testing center?    

The Candidate Authorization Code, which will be emailed to you within five minutes after registering.  The email will also give you instructions for scheduling your exam and the rules applicable to the testing center.  

What happens if I have to reschedule my examination at the testing center?    

Unless the candidate gives more than 72 hours notice, the testing center has the right to consider the testing fee earned and the examination will have to be re-scheduled.  

What happens if I am late to the scheduled time at the testing center?    

The testing center has the right to consider the examination fee earned if you are more than 15 minutes late - the examination will have to be re-scheduled.  

When do I receive my examination score?    

Immediately on screen at the testing center and via email.  

When do I become certified?    

After the your field experience is verified and the certification board reviews all submittals - usually in about 4 to 8 weeks.  You will be sent a certificate and listed on our website
